Both P1 Motorsport drivers ran a solid first race at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, to score top ten finishes. Walter Grubmüller Jr. climbed an impressive seven places during the race taking seventh position, ahead of his team mate Jan Charouz in a credible eighth place, claiming his first points-scoring finish of the season.

Charouz lined up seventh on the grid, ahead of Grubmüller Jr. who had endured a tough qualifying only to take 14th position. Both cars got a good initial start off the line, but Charouz found himself a couple of places down as he exited the first corner. From there, it was a question of keeping focus around the Belgian circuit, and staying out of trouble. Both P1 drivers rose to the challenge. Despite their rookie status, Charouz and Grubmüller Jr. put in strong and consistent performances, to bring home a double-points finish for the team.

Grubmüller Jr. commented on the result: ““I made a good start and gained two places but lost them quite quickly. It was important to keep up with the pace of drivers in front of me. It gave me opportunities to try several overtaking manoeuvres. In the end it is a good result and more points for me.”

Charouz added: “We were again a bit unlucky in the qualifying. I think there were four red flags when I wanted to put in a quick lap. I lost the advantage of the new tyres as a result, so I set my best time on used rubber, otherwise I believe it could have been better. My start was not a great one and I lost two positions but fortunately I managed to get them back immediately during the first lap. It was looking good afterwards. I tried to attack one rival close to the end and it did not work out. I spun and lost positions. I feel bad about it now, but I will try to do better tomorrow.”
