The Formula Renault 3.5 Championship heads to the principality of Monaco this weekend, for the fifth race of the 2010 season. As a support race to the Monaco Grand Prix, the Formula Renault 3.5 drivers will all be looking to impress F1 teams and personnel, up and down the pitlane.
P1 Motorsport go into the weekend with mixed results from the first two events of the year. Walter Grubmuller Jr has had a consistent start to his World Series by Renault debut season, with the Austrian driver finishing in the top ten for three out of the four races. His team mate Jan Charouz has had a more turbulent couple of weekends, with a retirement and a disqualification at Motorland Aragon, after scoring an excellent podium in only his first race weekend. Spa held better results for the Czech driver though, as he finished both races in the top ten.
P1 Motorsport are currently ninth in the overall standings, with Grubmuller Jr 14th in the driver’s championship, and Charouz lying in 17th place.
Both P1 drivers have yet to turn a wheel around the Monaco street circuit.
Czech Jan Charouz commented: “This is going to be my first ever drive at the famous Monte Carlo track and it will be a big challenge for sure. I used the Toyota F1 simulator in Cologne as part of my preparation where I did about 200 laps. It was a good experience for sure and it helped me but the reality will definitely be different. The most important thing will be not to make any mistakes and complete all practices, qualifying and the race. There is much more to learn compared with other tracks, but my aim will be the same – to try and score points, which means a top 10 finish.”
Walter Grubmüller Jr. said: “I have been thoroughly preparing for this race. I had an opportunity to learn the track on the Toyota simulator in Cologne and I also worked on my fitness. I hope that I will manage to do a good qualifying and also to drive the whole race without any issues. If I manage this, then points should be again within our reach.”
