Both P1 Motorsport drivers put in a solid performance at the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, to finish in the top 15 at their debut race on the Monte Carlo street circuit. Walter Grubmüller Jr brought his car home in 11th position, with team mate Jan Charouz crossed the line in 14th place.

After qualifying in 16th and 17th respectively, Grubmüller Jr and Charouz lined up on the grid on Sunday morning, for their first race on the notorious street circuit. Known to be a tough track to pass on and unforgiving on even the slightest mistake, the Formula Renault 3.5 round always provides a challenge for the entire field, but the P1 duo both kept their focus to give a strong performance.

Jan Charouz spoke about the result: “I‘m happy that I finally had a chance to drive around the famous Monte Carlo trac,k but overall I am not satisfied. Our aim had been to score a top 10 result and we did not manage it in Monaco. Next round is in three weeks on my home track at Brno. I hope that I‘ll be able to use my experience, and in front of my home fans, to fight again for some points.“

Walter Grubmüller Jr added: “I managed to get one position immediately after the start. I was focusing to keep my place at the first few corners which was not easy. I got hit on the rear and there was also a collision in front of me. The most difficult part was to avoid those cars. Fortunately, I managed it. I flat spotted my tyres shortly before the end during braking for the chicane which obviously affected the behaviour of my tyres. I am happy with 11th place. I just missed points but as a rookie it was important to gain experience.“

P1 Motorsport will be back in action at the next World Series by Renault event, at the Masaryk Circuit in Brno, Czech Republic, on 4 - 6 June.
