Walter Grubmüller Jr scored a superb fourth position finish for P1 Motorsport at the second race from the Czech Republic round of he Formula Renault 3.5 series at Brno. Team mate Jan Charouz was classified in 11th position.
Sunday morning saw both the P1 Motorsport duo qualify in the top ten for race two from Brno, with Grubmüller Jr. to start from sixth, and Charouz just behind him on the grid in eighth place. The race got underway but it was drama from the beginning, and the safety car was deployed while the circuit was cleared after an early incident.
When racing resumed, Charouz thirlled the home crowds with some impressive overtaking manouvres, and by lap four he was up to seventh position. Unfortunately for the Czech driver, an issue during the mandatory pitstop caused a delay in the pitlane, and Charouz was left with track position to make up.
Grubmüller meanwhile was challenging for third position, and enjoyed a competitive battle with Filip Salaquarda. The Austrian driver tried every which way to get past the ISR driver, but in the closing laps he came under pressure from Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1 Racing) in fifth place, and was forced to settle for a solid fourth position.
Grubmuller Jr spoke about the result: I was fourth after the pitstops and had Ricciardo and Hartley just behind me. I managed to keep them behind until the flag which is very pleasing. Im very happy with todays result and want to thank the whole P1 Motorsport team. I hope we will continue like this in the next round in France.
Jan Charouz said: I did everything I could out there; I overtook quite a few competitors, but unfortunately we had a difficult pitstop. The sharp end of the Formula Renault 3.5 is very close and several seconds during the stop makes big difference, but thats racing.
