P1 Motorsport has concluded its official preparations for the 2010 Formula Renault 3.5 Championship, after completing a two-day test at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain. Rookie drivers Jan Charouz and Walter Grubmüller Jr were consistent throughout the test, achieving top 10 results on both days.
Friday saw both drivers making progress, with Grubmüller Jr climbing into third position in the morning session, while team mate Charouz set the second fastest time of the afternoon.
Building on Day One's good form, the team returned on Saturday to take part in Day Two of the test earmarked specifically to evaluate the low-downforce aerodynamic configuration (LAC) that will be mandatory during this season's Saturday sprint races. Both drivers again showed good potential, finding good pace especially on old tyres. Grubmüllers fastest time was deleted due to being underweight, however he still managed to end the day classified in the top ten, along with team mate Charouz.
Jan Charouz: "I think this gas been another good test for us. On Friday we were really fast and on Saturday we were again fast on old tyres. I made a small mistake on my new-tyre run so improved by only two-tenths, but overall it was a good test and I am looking forward to the first event of the season."
Walter Grubmüller Jr: "The whole team worked very well and we achieved good lap times. We spent a lot of time working on the setup I really like the Motorland circuit and am satisfied we made good progress."
Team Principal - Roly Vincini: "We had another good test, with both cars on the pace which is great. Walter was officially fifth quickest on Saturday, however his best time was deleted as we were found to be running underweight. We calculated we would be right on the limit and we were - so it's great to confirm the data and know where we are going into the beginning of the season. The team is starting to gel really well - both rookie drivers finding setups to suit, and all working well together. It's been yet another positive outing, and we're looking forward to the opening round of the championship here at Motorland, Aragon, next month."
